What is the Best Skin Moisturizer for Dry Skin?

We get this question a lot! Many of our customers here in Colorado deal with extremely dry skin. Weather conditions are typically bright sun, wind, and extreme dryness due to our high altitude. This climate affects everyone: men, women, younger, older…everyone here feels the effects of the harsh weather. Here are some suggestions on how to treat dry skin.

Start with a cleanser that has humectant properties. For example, our Foaming Face Wash is extremely gentle and uses vegetable glycerine as a humectant. Glycerine helps draw in and trap moisture to the skin. Our pure kosher USP vegetable glycerin is top quality and GC tested for purity. Our vegetable glycerine comes from the fats stripped from vegetables and is 100% plant-based. We recommend patting your face with warm water prior to cleansing with the foaming face wash. This helps the humectant pull in water to the skin for added hydration.

Spritz your face with Floral waters prior to applying your moisturizers. Floral hydrosols or waters, like our Rosewater Facial Toner, help add a layer of moisture and balance the pH on your skin. Cleansers tend to be on the alkaline side, so bringing your pH back to normal, or around 5 pH will help moisturizers absorb better. Ensure that you are using a moisturizer cream for dry skin that is pH balanced for the face. The pH of our skin tends to be around 5; applying a daily moisturizer that is pH balanced, helps with absorption into the skin and tends to have a longer lasting effect. We measure the pH on every batch of our Daily Face Cream, a lotion & moisturizer for dry skin to ensure that the pH is between 4.9 – 5.1 which is the perfect range for absorption. Layering your moisture helps with dry skin. A moisturizer cream for dry skin, like our Daily Face Cream is designed to work together with an anti-aging product that uses various ingredients that are designed to help add moisture back to your skin.

Our Beauty Balm is the perfect product to layer on top of your Daily Face Cream because they have complementary ingredients. The Daily Face Cream provides a base layer utilizing the hydrating properties of chamomile tea, cocoa butter, shea butter, kokum butter, avocado oil, apricot kernel oil, almond oil, vegetable glycerine, and vitamin E. The Beauty Balm adds anti-aging and hydrating ingredients like vitamin C, jojoba oil, pumpkin seed oil, carrot seed oil, and sea-buckthorn extract. These products used together keep your skin feeling hydrated all day long.

We do not recommend using a face cream with added sunscreen and here’s why. The two natural ingredients that help with sun protection are zinc and titanium dioxide. These ingredients are very drying for the skin. That’s why it’s important to layer your moisturizers, then apply a lightweight sunscreen. This will allow each product to be effective and you don’t have competing ingredients in one product.

It’s also important to rehydrate before going to bed. Using the right products at night will allow your skin time to absorb nourishing ingredients, and promote cellular repair. We recommend washing with our Foaming Face Wash to remove dirt and pollutants that have collected on your skin during the day. A quick mist with the Rosewater Facial Toner will bring your skin’s pH back into balance. Then, depending on the dryness of your skin is, start to layer your moisture. We recommend our Pomegranate Oil as a base layer.  I’m over 50, and I live in colorado…so my skin is incredibly dry. PLUS, I have mild rosacea, so I need an anti-inflammatory for my skin. Pomegranate Oil has natural anti-inflammatory properties. It also boosts collagen production, enhances skin elasticity, reduces the appearance of scarring, promotes the reversal of skin damage, and leaves lasting moisture without leaving a greasy residue or clogging pores.

My next step in my nightly routine is to apply our Nightly Face Serum. There are numerous benefits to the all-natural oils we use in this serum. The main ingredient is organic olive oil. It has numerous benefits for the skin including protecting and hydrating even the most sensitive skin, helping to repair damaged skin tissues, revitalizing and strengthening skin’s tonicity, and is an antioxidant ally to combat aging. It’s important to note that we use only sebaceous oils, meaning they closely resemble human sebum and are easily absorbed by the skin. We also use sesame oil in our serum. Sesame oil contains fatty acids like oleic, palmitic, stearic, and linoleic acid, which are ideal moisturizers and help keep skin supple and soft. It is also high in both Vitamins A & E, which are essential nutrients for healing, and skin cell repair. Sesame oil is great for reducing wrinkles, fine lines, and reducing enlarged pores. The next ingredient superhero is Sweet Almond Oil, which can heal superficial skin burns, boost collagen production, keep skin hydrated and supple, and protect against potential damage caused by UV radiation. The final oil we use is Golden jojoba oil which has a variety of healing properties that may help with skin conditions like acne, eczema, and psoriasis.
